John has more than 22 years of experience in the UK music industry. For eight years he was Managing Director of the Beggars Group, the most successful independent record company in the world, including iconic labels such as 4AD and XL Recordings. During his time at Beggars, John helped build the careers of artists as diverse as The White Stripes, The Pixies, Basement Jaxx and Prodigy, and oversaw the global expansion of the group, and its acquisition of Rough Trade and Matador.

Under his guidance the Beggars Group led the way for the independent sector in adapting to and thriving in the emerging digital marketplace. He went on to run the UK operations of RCA, helping it win the largest market share for a label in the UK, launching the careers of UK artists such as The Script and Newton Faulkner, and executing multi platinum campaigns for international stars including Beyoncé and Alicia Keys. John was also a founding director of Consolidated Independent, a market leading digital distributor, as well as Playlouder.

John now runs the Trout Consultancy, an agency offering a range of management and business consultancy services to the entertainment sector. Clients past and present include Sony Music, State 51, Syco TV, Vevo and Studio Output.
